experiments with light
DK's primary camera right now is a Sony Alpha A-100 DSLR. However, he's also got a fair amount of material from his Konica Minolta Dimage Z5. At times he's also been known to use his wife's Cybershot w100. DK also shoot 35mm with a Minolta 700si and medium format with a vintage Yashica Mat-124 TLR.
DK prefers not to manipulate images too much; however, he does use the GNU Image Manipulation Tool (GIMP) when the need arises. While DK does generally stick to straight photography he does often remember the voice of his photography teacher telling him to not be afraid of tearing his photographs up.
DK enjoys the artwork of Jasper Johns, Ansel Adams, and Dorothea Lange to name a few.

Really like the composition here. When I shoot flowers I'm always at a loss. While I can appreciate a narrow DOF, what part of the flower should be sharply in focus? Stamen? Petals?
That's actually a question I am asked fairly often. Narrow DOF can make a very dramatic image. Here I felt that the petals were most interesting so I focused there and left the rest out of focus. One thing you can do it shoot several shots in sequence with various points of focus. This allows you to look at the images later and decide what you want your focal point to be.
